Airey Miller is providing client-side development management, cost and project management services to Newham Council on the Custom House regeneration scheme. By utilising a range of experienced staff, we have taken a stalled scheme that had been discussed for 20 years with little progress. After holding a successful resident ballot, we obtained planning permission for around 700 homes (50% affordable), a new high street with a state-of-the-art health facility, a new public realm, and improved green space.

Through an innovative “kickstart” approach, construction was already underway on the first 95 homes (100% affordable) by the time permission was obtained for the rest of the masterplan. This, coupled with the introduction of retrofit to a previously new-build-only masterplan, has demonstrated our ability to support local authorities to deliver complex regeneration schemes, even in the face of viability challenges and other tough economic circumstances.
