Tomorrow’s Garden City, Letchworth, Hertfordshire

We were appointed to project manage this RIBA award winning design to deliver a 21st century version of Ebenezer Howard’s Garden City in Letchworth.

A key challenge was to introduce cost effective innovation to achieve high levels of sustainability.

We value engineered pitched green roof solutions, grey water/rainwater harvesting solutions and air source heat pumps. We also used ‘hemcrete’ a highly sustainable product which attracted over £900,000 of grant.

A key element to the market sale housing was whether the sustainability element would attract a premium to the GDV of the market sale element. Working with the client’s marketing consultant, we recognised the necessity to reduce the extent of innovation where no recognisable benefit to GDV could be obtained.
